"Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and in the word." Catechism-7272
Holy Baptism is the first and fundamental sacrament of Christian life, the gateway to all other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ and the Church, to share in her mission:
(For children up to seven years of age only)
Your child may be up to six-years-old and not baptized previously.
At least one parent must be a baptized Roman Catholic.
A child may have a minimum of one, and no more than two, godparents. There may be one godfather and one godmother. You may desire to have additional "witnesses", but only the parents’ and two godparents' names will appear on your child's baptism certificate. The godparent(s) must be over 16 years of age, baptized Roman Catholic and have received their First Communion and Confirmation. If married, the prospective godparent must be in a marriage recognized as valid by the Church. They must commit to serve as lifetime spiritual mentors to their godchild, nurturing his/her Catholic faith and practice through their own regular attendance at Mass and active participation in parish life. Being a godparent is truly a ministry in the Church, and not simply an honor.
