Emmaus – Faith Sharing

Delve deeper into Sunday Mass's readings with Emmaus.

"Were not out hearts burning within us while he was talking with us on the road, while he was opening the scripture to us?"  (Luke 24:32)

Join us most Thursdays from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm in the St. Joseph Classroom.

For more information or to join, please contact Alicia Baptista at .

Emmaus is small, faith-sharing group at The Cathedral of Christ the Light. Together, we explore the lectionary readings for the following Sunday Mass. We have no handbooks textbooks—just the Sunday Mass Lectionary, as found in our Sunday Missel.

We approach the readings in a three-step process.

We start with an individual exploration. This first reading on our own is essential to forming our own personal impressions and and questions. From these initial reactions we begin constructing the agenda for our small-group session on Thursday.

We compare our initial reactions against secondary literature. Parishioner Damian Smyth will circulate some background materia via email. Materials from your Study Bible or other tools may also be helpful. This material is meant as a supplement, not a substitue.

We meet and share our questions and insights. We will find it is more productive to listen as the Scripture questions and challenges us. Together, we leave the final word to the Spirit. Without the pressure of having to wrap up everything by the end of the session, all are able to leave with a fresh material to ponder and a better prepared approach to recognize Him during Sunday Mass.
