Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, has granted Father Brandon Macadaeg a leave for personal reasons as rector of the Cathedral of Christ the Light. The Bishop has appointed Father Stephen A. Barber, SJ as Interim Parochial Administrator of the Cathedral of Christ the Light Parish, St. Leo the Great Parish and St. Patrick, West Oakland Parish, effective Nov. 15, 2024. Father Barber has full authority for all administrative and pastoral duties in the three parishes of the Cathedral cluster.
The Marian consecration group gathers every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel to pray the rosary. All are invited to join them to grow in devotion to the Blessed Mother, especially during the month of October, the month the rosary.
Catholic Funeral & Cemetery Services will be offering tours after the 11:00 a.m. Mass each Sunday for the month of October, in anticipation of All Souls Day. Please go to the mausoleum if you would like to participate in a tour.
The next cohort of parents seeking Baptism for their sons or daughters will begin on Sunday, October 6. Children who are part of this cohort will be baptized on Sunday, November 9. Please submit an interest form to participate.
Please join us for an All Souls Day Requiem Mass on Saturday, November 2 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the Light. Bishop Barber will preside, and the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra will resound Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. We also invite you to consider contributing to this celebration and to our Cathedral of Christ the Light Music Ministry.
Young adults (age 18-40) are invited to join us after the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 29 to meet with a member of our team, Jimmy Jimenez-Garcia, and connect with other young adults. Lunch will be provided and you'll hear more about young adult opportunities coming up this October. We hope to see you there! Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
Parents of children receiving First Communion must attend a mandatory orientation on Saturday, September 21, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. This will take place at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, located at 176 Ridgeway Ave, Oakland, CA 94611, on the corner of Ridgeway and Piedmont Ave. Lunch will be included for participants.
