The renowned organist Hentus van Rooyen is back at the Cathedral by popular demand for a concert showcasing the magnificent Conroy Memorial Organ.  Free-will offering.


Hentus van Rooyen began organ studies at age 14. In 2007 he enrolled for the degree B.Mus at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, under the tutelage of Prof. Wim Viljoen. During 2010 Hentus passed the UNISA Teacher's Licentiate, with distinction. He received the University Diploma in Church Music and B.Mus (performing arts), cum laude; both at the University of Pretoria. He also won the South African Church Organists Association undergraduate bursary and travel bursary in 2010. In 2011 the post-graduate and travel bursaries was awarded to him from the Hentus van Rooyen Photosame competition. He won the Stephanus Zondagh Overseas Music Study Scholarship at the UNISA Overseas Music Scholarship Competition after passing the UNISA Performer's Licentiate cum laude. In 2012 Hentus won yet another Scholarship for Overseas Study, which enabled him to begin graduate studies at the University of North Texas under the tutelage of Dr. Jesse Eschbach. In 2013 he was awarded Second Prize in the graduate division of the William C. (Bill) Hall Organ playing Competition, San Antonio, TX and in March 2014 he won the First Prize of the same competition. Hentus is set to finish his Masters of Music at the University of Pretoria this summer and to graduate with a DMA from the University of North Texas in Fall 2015.
